Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 991 -- OFFICIAL STATE DESSERT

SPONSOR:  Loudon (Schlottach)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Tourism by a vote of 12 to 0.

This bill designates the ice cream cone as the official state
dessert.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the ice cream cone was invented
in Missouri and designating it as our official state dessert will
bring notoriety from around the nation.  It will help tourism and
could possibly lead to an annual ice cream cone festival in
Forrest Park, where it was invented for the 1904 World's Fair.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Loudon; and Elise Kostial.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
